The Institute of Public Affairs Management Doctoral Program
Special Features of the Program
The Institute's doctoral program is one of the few doctoral programs in management schools that focus on public affairs. Courses and professors are divided into three areas: (1) Public Governance and Policy Science, (2) Urban and Rural Environmental Management, and (3) Voluntary Sector and Community Development. The course content of the doctoral program is decided in conjunction with an advisor, and students are encouraged to develop their own professional subfields. They can choose either academic or practice-oriented topics for their doctoral dissertations.
Graduation Requirements
Total Program Credits: 30 credits
The minimum number of credits for graduation is 30, of which 11 are required and required elective courses. Courses within each of the three subgroups are electives, providing students with a reference for developing their professional subfields. Students are encouraged to take courses from outside departments to strengthen their specializations.
Words from Our Alumni
Hsu-Chung Chang, doctoral alumnus
I would suggest that students first position their goals according to their interests. For example, if you want to work in a non-profit organization, take an exam for public office, or continue your studies, I recommend that you take courses across departments based on your own future goals in addition to the required courses. In addition, it is highly recommended that students consider joining a nonprofit organization related to the program during their studies.
The alumni of the Institute of Public Affairs Management are working in various fields and can be recommended and introduced to you through the network of professors or alumni associations. Opportunity depends on initiative; ability depends on continuous practice and experience. With this in mind, it is possible to strive for the upper reaches.
