Words from Our Alumni
Jung-Peng Huang, PhD alumnus 2003
When I was young, I worked in the restaurant industry, hotel industry, travel industry and education, and my life was very exciting, especially when I was a tour guide for Phoenix Tours and Lion Travel, leading groups to different countries around the world and experiencing different cultures, which is one of life's greatest enjoyments. The process was hard at times, but I also learned a lot, which I will never forget. I encourage you to go see the world when you are young, broaden your mind and expand your horizons.
What NSYSU taught you in the past is not enough, because robots don't get tired and AI artificial intelligence can calculate faster than you can. The Department of Business Management teaches you three things: “the taste of life” through a liberal arts education, “innovative work through professional courses, and multilingual ability. I believe it will definitely have a important impact on your future life. “Education does not equal strength, and a good school and good grades do not equal ability.” I look forward to the opportunity for you to become an NSYSU person, and to embrace the attitude of “if you just sit and wait for the opportunity to come, you are no different from the rest of the world” and to “be ready to change when others think you don't need to change.” No one remembers who came in second. “If you remain unique, you can be sustainable.”
With the academic foundation of NSYSU's PhD program and the support of my professors, I was promoted to full professor three years after graduation. In my career, I have taught at the National Kaohsiung University of Hospitality and Tourism for 21 years, and have served as the head of the Department of Tourism, the director of the Institute of Tourism Studies, the dean of the College of Tourism, the chief of administration, and the vice president of academic affairs.
Currently, I am president of Yu Da University of Science and Technology in Miaoli. My future ambitions are to look for opportunities for students in the future, to look for a better future for my current colleagues, and to create history for Yu Da University of Science and Technology, by continuing to carry forward the pragmatic spirit of hospitality, and welcome the era of possible great changes in the future.
When I walked out of NSYSU for the last time and left Sizihwan, I always believed that the world is your stage and the opportunities are as big as the stage. The most important keyword in your life in the future is “NSYSU” – after all, we “NSYSU people” will become synonymous with “people of excellence.” I wish future students and alumni glory and prosperity!
